The American people chose to put the Republicans in charge during the election on November 2, 2010. I know we didn't take the majority in the Senate but we increased our presence there by 6 seats which is a substantial victory. In the House we gained 63 seats. Republicans now hold the governor's seat in 29 states. To make matters worse for the Democrats we also took nearly 700 seats in State legislatures. They only took one seat from the Republicans. This election was historic and there hasn't been a shift like this for either party in 80 years. I'd say that's a mandate!
So what is the mandate? What do the American people want to see happen? I believe the number one issue is that they want the Republicans to stop the spending. Out of all the issues, this was at the top of most people's list. We are borrowing money to pay for new programs at a rate never seen before in our country. We now owe over 14 trillion dollars. I'm still trying to grasp just how big that really is. Republicans must stop spending but they also must cut current levels of spending. This is where people will really get to see what they are made of. Why? Because the liberals are going to kick and scream and throw all kinds of temper tantrums. They are going to say that the Republicans only care about the filthy rich and want to see grandma eating dog food and see poor people thrown out of their homes to help fund tax cuts for people who neither want nor deserve them. Don't let them intimidate you! You must stand strong and clearly define your strategy.
We must also repeal the new Health Care Law. This is one of the biggest mistakes this country has ever made. This is so broad in its scope that it threatens the very existence of America as we know it. There can be no compromise on this. The Republicans must repeal and replace and if that fails they must defund every aspect of it.
We must also stand for a strong National Defense. This is one of those things that is actually spelled out in the Constitution.
That's all for now. I'd like to hear your thoughts.
