President given authority to shut down the Internet

This sounds like something from George Orwell's "1984." When I first heard about it I thought that surely this was just another hoax. Under this new bill, the president will be allowed to control the Internet for up to 120 days. If that doesn't scare you, I don't know what will. Could you imagine having the Internet completely shut down for four full months. That means no e-mail, no news, no blogs, and no Facebook or MySpace. While there may be reasons that the politicians think this is needed, it is yet another trashing of our freedoms.
